Welcome to NADER KASHANI's personal website.
Nader Kashani was the star of Iran's basket ball in the 60's and the 70's. He joined the national basket ball team at the age of 17 and appeared as a fixed player from the age of 19. In a few years Nader had become the center of attention in almost every match. He served as captain of Iran's national team, Tehran league team PAS, and the Army team in countless number of games in late 60's and most of the 70's. He retired from the game in 1977.
After retiring Nader briefly coached a number of local teams for a few years, before taking a lasting break from the court.
Nader was famous for his unique style and his full dedication to the game. On the court, he was always equally serious and alert regardless of if it was a title match or just a friendly.
His popularity has traveled beyond generations, for the man on the street back in the early years he was a living legend, and for many aged and young players today he has remained an icon in Iran's history of basketball.
This website will be under development for a while, as some audio and video interviews and a long expected self-biography will be added to the site. In the meanwhile, please enjoy a sample of old photos from Nader's private album and some newspaper clips from the fun years.
Nader, born inn 1944, was soon discovered as a rare talent, (coincidentally Nader means rare in Persian language) interestingly not only in basketball, but also i volleyball and football. According to one of his trainers in early years he could be as big a star in football as he was in basketball if he had chosen to pursue football first.
Nader always wore jersey no. 12, which became the numeric symbol for him, kinda like no. 10 for Pele. etc.
On the court Nader was always fully focused and 100% dedicated to the game regardless of if it was an important official championship game or just a friendly game. However his full devotion to the game was not always risk-free. Some of his injuries were a result of giving the game a little too much! In a championship game an elbow charge from the opponent player shot Naders two front teeth right to the roof. Amazingly this minor mishap didn't seem to disturb Naders play as he continued charging towards the opponent teams basket. It almost took a minute before he hesitantly stopped further down the court, just before the referee pretty much in an obvious state of shock escorted him out of the court. On the way out, Nader kept arguing with the referee that he shouldn't stop the game!
The teeth were actually recovered in the half break, and put temporarily back in place by a competent dentist on call.
More amazing stories will be posted shortly.
